How does HTTPS or Certificate protect me?

HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) is an Internet communication protocol that protects the integrity and confidentiality of data between the user’s computer and the webserver. Users are looking for security and privacy while using the site. Regardless of the content of your site, we recommend that you protect HTTPS users from connecting to them.

Data sent through HTTPS is secured through Transport Layer Security (TLS), which provides three main layers of protection:

  1. Encryption: Encrypts transmitted data to protect against interception. This means that when a user browses a website, nobody can “intercept” his conversation, monitor activity on the site, or steal his data.
  2. Integrity: Data during transmission cannot be altered or damaged (either intentionally or otherwise) without it being detected.
  3. Verification: Confirms that users are communicating with the desired websites. Provides protection against man-in-the-middle attacks and strengthens user confidence, giving businesses additional benefits.

What is the difference between the different types of certificates?

Standard SSL certificates

They are the most common type of SSL certificates.

They provide one domain (eg www.vas-hosting.com). Our standard SSL certificates are free of charge for both a domain with a www and a domain without www.

We can also consider Let’s Encrypt as the standard certificate, which can be the same. The only difference is a price. We automatically install the Let’s Encrypt on the webhosting.

Wildcard certificates

SSL certificates with an asterisk secure the entire domain including all their subdomains, such as * .vas-hosting.cz provides:

  • mail.vas-hosting.cz
  • centrum.vas-hosting.cz

If needed, to secure multiple subdomains, it is worthwhile to purchase a single wildcard certificate instead of several standard SSL certificates.

EV certificates

Extended validation certificates shade the address bar of the web browser in green and display the name of the holder. The green address line is not overlooked, it increases the credibility of the website.
